Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about PrismGB

Getting Started

What devices are supported?

PrismGB is designed exclusively for the ModRetro Chromatic handheld gaming device. Other devices are not currently supported.

Do I need to install drivers?

Windows and macOS work out of the box. On Linux you may need one quick USB package - see the GitHub page for the short setup steps.

What are the system requirements?

Works on Windows 10+, macOS 10.15+, or modern Linux (including Raspberry Pi and other ARM64 devices) with a USB port for your Chromatic.

Features

What are the render presets?

Pick from five looks: True Color (original GBC feel), Vibrant (brighter), Hi-Def (sharper edges), Vintage (CRT-style scanlines), and Pixel (LCD grid overlay).

Where are my screenshots and recordings saved?

Captures save to your regular Videos or Pictures folder with clear timestamps so you can find them later.

Troubleshooting

Why does PrismGB need camera and microphone access on Mac?

The Chromatic streams video over USB, and macOS treats USB video devices as cameras. PrismGB will ask for camera and microphone access the first time you launch it—just click Allow. If you missed the prompt, you can grant permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Without this, the video stream won't appear.

My Chromatic isn't detected. What should I do?

Make sure your Chromatic is powered on, then try a different USB port or cable. If it still doesn't show up, restart PrismGB and plug it back in.

The video stream is laggy or choppy. How can I fix it?

Switch to a lighter visual style in settings. If it still feels off, restart the app or reconnect your Chromatic.

Recording fails or produces no output. What's wrong?

Check that you have enough disk space. Close other apps that might be using your camera or microphone, then try again.
